Bus Incident

Dear Parents:

This afternoon, December 11, 2014, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by a Vail bus driver.  The driver reported hearing students talk about having a gun on the bus.  The driver pulled the bus over and contacted 911.  The Sheriff’s Department responded.

Deputies interviewed students on the bus and verified that there was no gun.  It was determined that two older students were “joking” to alarm other students on the bus.

The two students who created the disturbance were cited by the Sheriff’s Department and released to their parents.

Comments regarding the safety of our students and staff are taken seriously. Please use this incident to talk to your student about the seriousness of making comments about weapons.

I encourage you to call Ken Graff, Principal of Sycamore, or Margaret Steuer, Principal of Corona Foothills Middle School, if you have any questions or concerns.

November 19th, 2014 @ 12:52 PM:
From our Transportation Department: Elementary and Middle School Buses will be ON TIME picking up students and getting them home! Activity buses are canceled this afternoon for Sycamore and Corona Foothills Middle School. We’ll keep you posted if there are any changes.

November 19th, 2014 @ 8:19 AM:
Just an update on buses for today… Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding for this unexpected delay this morning. Since there is a shortage of drivers today, activity buses will be canceled. If your child normally takes an activity bus home after school, other arrangements will need to be made. We will keep you posted if there are any changes or updates.

November 19th, 2014 @ 6:20 AM:
This morning, we have a critical driver shortage in the Transportation Department due to illness. Transportation is working hard to cover routes this morning, however, all routes in the Corona de Tucson area will be at a minimum twenty minutes late. A second run will occur after the first run to pick up any students that missed the bus. Please call the school office if you have any questions.
