School Alerts for Inclement Weather:

Update – 9-18-2014 6:29 AM

School will be open as usual today. We’ll keep you informed as the day progresses if there are any changes to our school routine, activities or dismissal procedures. As always, if you have any questions or need to make any changes in your child’s transportation arrangements, please contact our front offices. The Sycamore front office can be reached at 879-2502 and the Corona Foothills front office can be reached at 879-3502. Please be safe in your travels this morning.

Update – 9-17-2014 10:04 AM

We are continuing to monitor local weather conditions and make adjustments to our school schedule.  YMCA informed us that there will be no YMCA after school activities today.  If your child typically attends the YMCA Program after school, please contact our front office (879-2507) to make other arrangements.

Title I Night, Family Reading Night, and National Junior Honor Society Induction meetings are canceled due to expected heavy rains tonight.  These events will be rescheduled for a different date.

We will continue to keep you informed of any additional changes.

Update for Dismissal – 9-17-2014 8:32 AM

There will not be any after school activities today. No clubs, tutoring, or library.

Students will take their normal bus home. Parents, please pickup your child/children at dismissal. If your child walks home, please call 879-2502 if you prefer to pick up your child from school.

We will keep you updated with information on bus transportation and dismissal. Thank you for your patience and co-operation.

9-16-2014

Weather reports indicate that we could receive heavy rains over the next few days which may impact bus transportation to Sycamore.  If buses are not able to get to Sycamore, we will safely house students at school until a parent or designated family member is able to pick them up.

Depending on weather conditions, after school activities may also be canceled.

Weather is unpredictable.  As of now, we are continuing with our plans for National Honor Society Induction and Family Reading Night.

We will continue to keep you informed as developments occur via our school’s Facebook Page, SchoolMessenger, and our School’s Web Site.

The purpose of the meetings is to provide information and receive input.

Tonight, Tuesday 7 PM, Sycamore/Corona Foothills Community Room
Any parent or community member is welcome to attend.

The meeting will be conducted by superintendent Calvin Baker and/or assistant superintendent John Carruth.

Important Community Meeting

You are Invited
to Community Meetings on
THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION IN THE CORONA DE TUCSON AREA

Growth is again happening in the Corona Area. New homes are being built. More are planned.

All classrooms at Sycamore Elementary School and Corona Foothills Middle School are full.

It is likely growth will continue. It is also a distinct possibility that recent court rulings will provide additional state funding that could be used to reduce class sizes (thus requiring more classrooms). There are no available classrooms in the Corona Area for growth or reducing class sizes.

The Vail School District is working on the development of two plans:

  1. The November bond election is successful and funds become available to build a new school in the Corona Area.
  2. The bond election fails and no school can be built — requiring more students to be bused from the Corona to other areas in the School District.

The purpose of the meetings is to provide information and receive input.

Please choose the time that best fits your schedule:

Wednesday, 9/10, 7 PM, Sycamore MPR (meeting to be held after the Science Fair Meeting at Sycamore)

Thursday, 9/11, 4 PM, Sycamore/Corona Foothills Community Room (meeting to held during the break in parent/teacher conferences)

Tuesday, 9/16, 7 PM, Sycamore/Corona Foothills Community Room

Any parent or community member is welcome at any of the meetings.

The meetings will be conducted by superintendent Calvin Baker and/or assistant superintendent John Carruth.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the meetings.  Click here for a PDF of this invitation.

Important Information Regarding Transportation

We’ve been made aware that both Houghton and Wentworth Roads are closed at this time. We are unsure whether those roads will be open in time for school dismissal. Please allow for extra time and plan accordingly for picking up your child from school today.

The District is currently assessing the situation and will determine if busing will be available. Buses are not allowed to cross running water or closed roads. Currently buses are not able to cross certain parts of Sahuarita Road. As we receive information, we will continue to keep you informed.

We will continue to house students in their classrooms until they are able to be picked up by parents or until busing is available.

Click Here for an important message from Vail School District.

UPDATE:  We’ve been informed that the district is sending buses out to our schools.  Bus riders will board as soon as buses arrive.
