Abby Countryman – Inclusion Specialist

Even though I admire the cactus blossoms, the garbage-tipping javelinas, and the mesmerizing sunsets after the summer monsoons, the desert wasn’t always my home. I was born in the Philippines and growing up I lived on various Air Force bases around the United States: Idaho, California, and Florida. We finally settled in Tucson when I was in middle school and I attended and graduated from Sahuaro High School.

My passion for reading led me to the University of Arizona’s College of Education, where I pursued my Bachelors of Arts in Education with a focus in English. After an opportunity of working as an inclusion specialist, I later obtained a post-degree certificate in special education. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade both as a resource teacher and inclusion specialist. I am excited to be joining Sycamore Elementary this year as a special education teacher!

I live in Corona de Tucson with my husband and son, who will also attend Sycamore this year. When I’m not cheering my son on the soccer field, I enjoy cooking and baking, camping with friends and family, hiking and observing desert wildlife, kayaking, and traveling.
