Message from the Principal

Mr. Graff

Sycamore students in grades 3-5 will be taking the AzMERIT test during the month of April. Rather than this
being a time of anxiousness, I like to think of this as a time to be excited. Our students are prepared and ready to go!
The Arizona Department of Education has posted information about AzMERIT on the their website. I encourage you explore the Parent/Student tab and take one of the grade level sample assessments. It provides a clear perspective of the computer-based assessment students will see when they take the AzMERIT.

Attendance is critical. Please keep the testing schedule in mind when making appointments during the month of April. It is also very important that students arrive to school on time. Students will not be able to finish a section of the test if they leave in the middle of it. Parents can support us by limiting appointments that may pull students from class. Each grade level will only test one day of each week. Each testing session will last 2-3 hours.

Testing Dates:
Week of April 2: AzMERIT Writing for 3rd-5th grades
Week of April 9: AzMERIT Math
April 13: 4th Grade AIMS Science
Week of April 16: AzMERIT ELA
Week of April 23: AzMERIT Make-ups
*Depending on the grade level, some times are subject to change.

Teachers will be sending a more detailed scheduled home.

Important upcoming events include Kinder Promotion and 5th Grade Promotion. Please mark your calendars accordingly:
Kindergarten Promotion:
May 23: AM Kindergarten: 9:00 am & PM Kindergarten at 12:30 pm
5th Grade Promotion:
May 25 @ 8:30 am in the MPR

It’s also that time of year to be thinking about next year. Please look in the May Stinger for the teacher request process. Teacher requests will be accepted during the week of April 30. Staffing assignments for the 2018-2019 school year will be completed by that time and teacher bios will be placed on Sycamore’s website.

We look forward to a strong finish to our school year! As always, thank you for your continued support.

Golden BellA+ School of Excellence!
