Attendance

Attendance is Critical to Student Learning!

It’s important to restate the importance of regular school attendance and the obvious role it plays in learning and achievement. Please make sure that your your child has regular
attendance. In addition, it is critical that students begin each day ready to go in the
classroom by being on time to school. Even missing the first five minutes of class can
potentially put a child at a disadvantage for the remainder of the day.

Did you Know…

  • Over 7 million (1 in 7) U.S. students miss nearly a month of school each year.
  • CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM is considered when a student misses 18 days (10% of the school year) of school or more. Please speak to administration if your child has a medical condition which impacts their attendance.
  • Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back. Students with high attendance risk in kindergarten and/or first grade scored an average of 50 points lower on third-grade ELA tests.
  • Students with good attendance in both grades had significantly higher scores on the third-grade ELA test; when absences increased, the likelihood of performing at grade level on both ELA and math tests decreased.
  • By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
  • When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
  • Funding for schools in Arizona is based on daily attendance rates.

Set your child up for success by making school attendance a priority!
