I was born and raised in southern California and made my journey to Tucson, Arizona to attend the University of Arizona. While I attended school I worked with elementary school students through various reading and math programs associated with the University. Through this opportunity I continued to fuel my passion for education and learning. I graduated in 2006 and began my teaching career here at Sycamore Elementary.
I taught second grade for five years and first grade for two years. During that time I was involved in many facets of our school and the Sycamore community including instructional team leader for both first and second grade. After my seventh year of teaching, I took some time off to grow my family. Now my son Henry will attend preschool here at Sycamore! Following new opportunities to work in various areas at Sycamore, I joined the media center and have been the librarian for two years. In the library, I get to interact with all of the students here at Sycamore. I had the opportunity to teach mini-lessons, do classroom extensions and implement ELA standards. Now, I am ready to jump back into the classroom!
During my time away from school, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love to go to Reid Park Zoo, have picnics, read and attend all sorts of sporting events! I love cooking, music, gardening and enjoying all that the desert life has to offer.
I believe that building a comfortable and engaging learning space is key to a successful classroom environment. I strive to build and cultivate relationships with the students and use their interests, experiences and knowledge to create meaningful collaborative lessons. It is critical for students to build their confidence so that they can discover their learning capabilities and grow as a learner. I am so excited to have this opportunity and work with the amazing students here at Sycamore!
