As a native to Tucson, I attended the U of A in the 90’s where I received my first degree in High School Education (Literature/Drama). After checking out the high school scene, I decided that what I really wanted to do was to work at the elementary level. After several years and a few kids later those dreams FINALLY became a reality. My kids and I showed up at Sycamore, ready to go, when my oldest kiddo turned 5 and was about to begin kindergarten! We loved Sycamore immediately and I have been here ever since! Both of my kids attended K-5 here at Sycamore and Sycamore is a huge part of our family’s memories. I love that I understand what it is like to not only be a teacher here at Sycamore, but also what it is like to be a parent of Sycamore students as well. I feel that having that parent experience has helped me to become a better teacher, since I know what teachers and parents of young kids experience daily.
During my years at Sycamore, I have worn many hats including several years as the Kindergarten Intervention Specialist. Through the years, my educational philosophy has remained the same. I really want to not only teach children academics, but I also want to share with them my passion for learning! I strive to achieve this in the classroom every day as well as in my K-3 Drama Club where I get to share my passion for theater and literature with some awesome young people! I love teaching kiddos new things and giving them new experiences.
I want kids to leave my classroom understanding how what we learn in the classroom relates to the “real world”. I want my students to come to school each day wondering what cool new thing they will learn and how Mrs. Miller will make them laugh! Classroom discussions, songs, skits, story-telling, and a safe, nurturing learning environment help students to develop a love of learning and a love for school that I hope lasts them a lifetime!
