Chrissie Mealer – Fifth Grade Teacher

I graduated from The University of Arizona in 1999.  I have been teaching for 18 years, and this will be my seventh year at Sycamore teaching the fifth grade.  I am extremely honored to be part of such an amazing group of educators here in the Vail School District.  I started my teaching career with second graders. In addition, I have spent some wonderful years teaching fourth grade.  Now, I am a fifth grade teacher, and I consider myself to be very fortunate to be able to go to a job everyday that I love.

I also enjoy tutoring students in reading, and math.  I love Literature. After all, reading is one of my favorite things to do. It brings me great pleasure when I’m able to pass on my love for reading to my students.  My favorite subjects in school are Reading, Math, and Social Studies. I’m very passionate about the relationships I have with my students. I hope that I can inspire them to try new things, to be the best they can be, and to learn to love learning!

I grew up in Tucson. I received my Masters in Reading/Literacy in 2010.  I am married to my wonderful, and supportive husband.  We have three beautiful children that are also part of the Vail School District.  In addition to our human family, we have three dogs, and a hamster.   The things I enjoy most outside of school are, working on DYI projects, shopping, and just having fun with my family doing various activities.
Being a parent myself, I realize how important it is for you to be part of your child’s education. I believe the connection between home and school is very important to the success of your child.  I welcome parents to communicate with me regularly. Please come in and visit, or volunteer in the classroom.  I believe that a strong bond between children, parents and the school will build self confident, strong, and happy children.
